How do I set an automation goal?
In the automation editor, the Goal lives in a card at the top-left corner of the canvas. Click Set goal on it and pick what shows the automation worked — for example, a Purchase approved for an offer. When the person reaches the goal, the conversion counts toward the automation's Conversion rate and, if you choose Remove from flow, they stop getting the next steps.
The Goal replaces the old exit conditions on the trigger card: the trigger card no longer has an exit section. It is the same Goal as the automation step on the funnel canvas — one concept, with the same criteria on both sides.
Role: any member with access to the workspace.
Before you start
- The automation already exists. It can be a draft, active or paused.
- Automation created by a funnel: the goal can be edited both in the funnel (the automation card's footer) and in the automations editor (the card at the corner of the canvas). It is the same goal: when you reopen the other editor, it fetches and shows the latest configuration; if two people save at the same time, the second one sees a notice that the goal changed and must reload before saving. The entry triggers of that automation are still chosen only in the funnel. See how to create an automation without leaving the funnel.
- CRM-managed automation (pipeline stage automations): it has no goal of its own.
Steps
- Open the automation. At the top-left corner of the canvas, click the Goal card — the arrow on the right shows it opens (Set goal, if there is none yet). If a goal already exists, the card shows its title and, below it, how the criteria combine and the settings (for example, All criteria · Removes from the flow · counts up to 7 days after finishing). The card expands in place, on the Configuration tab, laid out in blocks: Criteria, When the goal is reached, Conversion window, Result shown and, when there are any, the automations this goal starts. Each block has a short line; the full explanation shows when you hover the i icon in the block's corner.
- Click Add criterion and pick the event in the list that opens next to it, by category or in Search events....
- To filter the criterion, click the filter button right below it (for example Offer or Payment method) and tick one or more values in the list; it stays open until you click outside. The filter becomes a section of the criterion: its name, the condition and one chip per value. Example: Purchase approved with the section Offer is one of and the chips Course A and Mentoring. With no filter, any occurrence of the event counts.
- If the conversion takes more than one event, add another criterion and choose, in the sentence at the top, whether all or any of them must happen. See the sections below.
- Under When the goal is reached, choose Remove from flow or Keep in flow.
- Under Conversion window, choose how long a conversion keeps counting after the person finishes the automation.
- Under Result shown, choose what the funnel card and Performance show: the Current measurement or everything Since the start.
- Click Save goal. The card goes back to its compact state, showing the goal's title. To leave without saving, click Cancel, the ✕, outside the card or press Esc — with pending changes, the editor asks you to confirm before discarding them.
All or any of the criteria
The criteria sit in a single list, under the sentence The goal is reached when all of these criteria happen. Click all to switch to any.
- all (default): the person must meet every criterion in the list. The panel shows and between them.
- any: one criterion from the list is enough. The panel shows or between them.
- With a single criterion, all and any mean the same.
- You can have up to 5 criteria. At the limit, the button reads Up to 5 criteria.
- The same criterion can't repeat in the list (This criterion is already in the list): remove the repetition to save.
Example: with any, Purchase approved for the main offer or Tag applied with the tag Customer — the person converts with either one.
The condition of each filter
First you tick the values; then, in the condition next to the filter name, you decide whether they include or exclude. The condition text follows the number of values:
Some filters take a single value and have a fixed condition:
- Include: the event only needs one of the values. To require all of them (bought product A and product B), add one criterion per value and use all.
- Exclude: the event can't carry any of the values. An event that doesn't carry that field does not meet the criterion.
- To add values later, click Add in the section.
- Each filter accepts up to 20 different values.
- Offers show with their picture and product name.
- Removing the last value (or clicking the section's ×) removes the filter.
- A deleted item shows as Removed item; an account that can no longer be used in automations is marked Unavailable item. The other values still apply.
- Offer and Product don't go together in the same criterion. With one of them chosen, use Switch to Product (or Switch to Offer) in the section: ticking the first product replaces the offers, and the list stays open to tick more. Closing without ticking keeps the offers. An older goal with both warns This criterion has both filters at once. Remove one of them to save.
- Stage only shows up after you pick the Pipeline. Changing or removing the pipeline removes the stages. Courses don't depend on the Members area: picking the area only narrows the list, and changing it keeps the courses.
- Some events are not offered in the goal list: message received with text rules, email opened and clicked, conversation events and card field changed. An older goal that uses one of them shows the criterion read-only, with Remove this criterion and add a compatible one.
Goal with paths
Goals built before the list may combine paths, like "(A and B) or C". They keep working, but open read-only, with the notice This goal uses paths. To edit, click Build new goal: the list starts empty and the current goal keeps working until you save. Cancel keeps the original.
An older goal with more than 5 criteria opens with the notice This goal has N criteria: remove criteria until 5 are left to save.
The goal title
The goal has no name field: its title is built automatically from the criteria's events, in the order they appear. It shows up to two events and sums up the rest — for example, Purchase approved, Boleto Generated and 3 more. Filters (which offers, which tag) are not part of the title.
The title shows on the Goal card on the canvas (compact and expanded) and, in automations started by this goal, on the trigger card under Today:.

Conversion window: how long a conversion counts
Each pass of a person through the automation has its own deadline — in an evergreen automation, everyone enters on a different day and the window follows each entry, not a fixed period of the automation. The options are Only during the automation, Up to 1 day, Up to 3 days, Up to 7 days and Up to 30 days after finishing. New goals start at 7 days.
- While they are in the automation: the conversion counts with any option.
- After they finish: counting continues for the chosen period, starting when their run finished its last step. It is the same idea as an ad conversion window, except the clock starts at the end of the automation instead of the click.
Example with 7 days: someone who enters on October 1 and finishes the sequence on October 10 counts until October 17; someone who enters on October 20 and finishes on October 29 counts until November 5.
The run is not reopened: the person gets no more steps, only the conversion is counted. People who leave before the end — canceled, removed by the goal or by an error — get no window: they only count if they convert while still in the automation.
In warm-ups, the purchase often comes after the end — use 7 or 30 days. In cart recovery, use Only during the automation or 1 day.
Result shown
Choose what the automation card in the funnel (Analytics view) and the Conversion rate card in Performance show:
- Current measurement: only the entries of the ongoing measurement, in the period selected on screen.
- Since the start: every entry since the first measurement, each counted once — it ignores the selected period and is labeled Since the start.
Changing this option does not start a new measurement. It keeps applying if you remove and recreate the goal.
Where to see the result
- The automation's Performance tab: the Conversion rate card shows the rate and X of Y entries (with Since the start when that is the Result shown option). With no goal, it reads Set a goal.
- Message steps: Attributed conversions shows in how many conversions that step was the last message sent before the conversion.
- Funnel canvas, in the Analytics view: the foot of the automation card shows Conversions in bold and, below it, the rate and the number of entries (for example, 41.4% of 222 entries).
- Contact history: Reached an automation goal appears, with the automation name.
How each number is counted — and why the recent rate can still go up — is in how the goal conversion rate is counted.
Change or remove the goal
Any change — criteria, all/any, Remove from flow/Keep in flow or the conversion window — starts a new measurement when you save. The panel warns you first. Result shown is the exception: changing only it does not start a measurement.
Measurements live in the panel's Measurements tab, in two parts: the result card at the top and the history below it.
- Current measurement | Since the start: sits inside the result card and picks what its numbers show; the history does not change. The tab starts on the goal's Result shown, but switching here is only for viewing — it saves nothing and does not change the funnel card. With no measurement in progress, only Since the start shows.
- Entries, Conversions and Rate, in bold.
- The bar: how many entries converted, how many can convert (still in the automation or inside the conversion window, so the rate can go up) and how many ended without converting.
- History: one line per measurement, newest first, with the period, rate, conversions and a thin bar with the share of entries that converted, to compare measurements at a glance. Click a line to open its details: the full bar with the numbers, the Criteria (one per line), what happens When reached, the Window, the Entries and duration, and What changed when it started — for example, + Tag added to contact or Window: only during → 3 days. The very first one shows First measurement.
Since the start counts each entry once, even if it went through more than one measurement — that is why it is not the sum of the measurements. An entry is one pass through the automation: if the same person enters again, it counts again.
Switching tabs does not discard your edits.
To take the goal off, open the panel and, on the Configuration tab, click Remove goal. The current measurement ends and stays in the history; the automation stops counting conversions. If other automations start when this goal is reached, the confirmation lists which ones will stop starting — see how to start an automation when someone reaches another one's goal.
If it didn't work
- The person kept getting messages after converting: check that When the goal is reached is set to Remove from flow and that the criterion filters (offer, product) match what they did.
- Someone who had already converted entered the automation: the goal does not block anyone from entering. Use the entry trigger filters for that.
- "A goal criterion is incomplete": you can save the goal like that, but the automation can only be activated after you complete the criterion. Open the Goal and finish setting it up.
- "Cards without a linked offer will not count for this criterion.": in opportunity automations, a purchase criterion limited to an offer or product only reaches cards linked to that offer or product. Link the offer to the card or remove the filter from the criterion.
- "This automation is managed by the CRM and has no goal of its own.": pipeline stage automations have no goal.
- "Outdated editor" when saving: the editor was open since before the switch to the Goal. Reload the page and save again.
- "The goal changed": someone else changed the goal while you were editing. Review the changes before saving.
