  • English
  • Connect a domain you already own

If the domain is already registered with an external provider (Registro.br, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Hostinger and the like), you do not need to transfer it. You just point it at Clickmax.

    Before you start

    • Role: workspace Owner or Admin.
    • You need access to the DNS panel of the provider where the domain is registered.

    1. Add the domain in Clickmax

    1. Open Domains and click Add domain. The Add a domain you already own window opens, with the 1 Address and 2 DNS steps at the top. If you do not have a domain yet, click Buy it through Clickmax in the window text.
    2. Fill in the subdomain and domain. In www.mysite.com, www is the subdomain and mysite.com is the domain. To use another subdomain, click Modify subdomain.
    3. Pick the domain's project.
    4. Check the Your site will open at line right below the fields: it shows the final address, for example https://www.mysite.com, and only appears when the address is valid.
    5. Click Continue.

As you type, uppercase letters, accents and spaces are adjusted automatically in both fields: My Store becomes my-store.

Once you continue, the Domain added notification appears and the window moves to the 2 DNS step, asking How do you want to point the DNS?. Pick an option and click the footer button:

    • Set up automatically (Recommended, about 2 minutes) → Open automatic setup button: opens a window where you sign in to your provider's account and the record is created for you. When the window finishes, DNS set up appears and the domain screen opens to follow the connection.
    • I will create the record myself (about 5 minutes) → See the records button: opens the domain screen, with the record to copy and create at your provider (step 2).

You can switch later: the domain screen shows the records and the automatic setup button. If you click Close, the domain stays registered in the list.

Domains on the previous version skip the 2 DNS step: the setup window opens right away. If you close that window without setting anything up, the domain stays registered — just create the records by hand (step 2). Visitors can only reach the domain once the DNS is set up.

The field takes the domain only, not a page address

The most common mistake is pasting a full page address (https://mysite.com/promo). The field accepts the domain only — no https://, no slashes and no parameters. If what you typed is not accepted, the Continue button does not move forward and a message appears under the field telling you what to fix:

    What you typedMessageWhat to do
    https://mysite.comRemove the "https://" and enter only the domain. E.g. mysite.comDelete the https://
mysite.com/promoRemove the slash (/) and everything after it. Connect the domain itself, not a page address. E.g. mysite.comDelete the slash and what follows
mysite.com?utm_source=igRemove the "?" and "#" and everything after them. E.g. mysite.comDelete the ? and what follows
mysiteThe domain extension is missing, such as .com or .co.uk. E.g. mysite.comAdd the extension
my_site.comThe domain accepts only unaccented letters, numbers, hyphens and dots. E.g. mysite.comReplace the unsupported character
Subdomain app.betaThe subdomain accepts only unaccented letters, numbers and hyphens, no dots. E.g. wwwUse a subdomain with no dot
Subdomain -store or store-The subdomain cannot start or end with a hyphen. E.g. wwwRemove the hyphen at the edge
-mysite.comNo part of the domain can start or end with a hyphen. E.g. mysite.comRemove the hyphen at the edge

    2. Point the DNS at your provider

What to set up depends on the domain's version. Open the domain's details with the pencil on its row in the list:

    • The screen shows the Connect the domain in 3 steps card (or, with the domain live, All set!) → the domain is on the new version. Follow New version.
    • The screen does not show that card → the domain is on the previous version. Follow Previous version.

New version: Connect the domain in 3 steps

On the new version, one record is enough: the domain's CNAME pointing to Clickmax. The Connect the domain in 3 steps card shows what is left, with a progress bar and a count, for example 1 of 3 done:

    StepWho does it
    1. Create the CNAME record at your providerYou.
    2. We confirm the domain is yoursAutomatic, a few minutes after the CNAME is right.
    3. We turn on the security certificate (HTTPS)Automatic.

Each step has a badge: Your action (you still need to create the record), In progress (happening on its own), Waiting (depends on the previous step) or Done.

While step 1 is pending, it shows the record to create. The fastest way is to click Set up automatically, in the Rather not touch the DNS? box: it opens the window where you sign in to your provider's account and the record is created for you. It works with supported providers. If yours is not supported, create the record by hand in your provider's panel:

    TypeNameValueWhat it is for
CNAMEWhat comes before the domain, for example www for www.mystore.comdomains.clickmax.spaceSends visitors to Clickmax.
    • Copy the Name and Value with the copy buttons on screen. The Name already comes the way most providers ask for it: only what comes before the domain, since the provider fills in the rest.
    • If your provider asks for the full name, use the one shown right below the record, for example www.mystore.com.
    • A domain without www (a root domain, such as mystore.com) only works if your provider accepts a CNAME at the root, a feature also called ALIAS, ANAME or CNAME flattening. If yours does not, use www.
    • A domain that came from the previous version through the migration also shows TXT records. That case is covered in how to migrate the domain to the new version.

The record shows Verified or Pending. Once the CNAME is found, step 1 turns Done and steps 2 and 3 move to In progress until they finish on their own.

Once the record is in place, click Recheck, at the bottom of the card. If something is still missing, the Not connected yet notification says what it is — for example, Missing: CNAME pointing to Clickmax or Missing: active certificate. The platform keeps checking the DNS for about an hour. If it does not find the record in that time, the domain goes back to Disconnected and the card says the automatic check ended without finding the records: check the CNAME at your provider and click Recheck to start it again.

The status shows where the domain stands:

    StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
DisconnectedThe record has not been found yet, or the automatic check ended without finding it.Create or check the CNAME and click Recheck: the check starts again for about an hour.
ConnectingWaiting for the DNS records to confirm the domain is yours.Check the CNAME and wait.
SecuringDomain confirmed. The security certificate still has to become active, or the CNAME still has to point to Clickmax. With all three steps Done, only the confirmation that the site answers is left, which takes a few minutes.Check the CNAME and click Recheck later.
ConnectedAll set: the domain is already serving pages.Go to step 4 (or step 3, to send emails with the domain).

When the domain connects, you get the Domain connected! notification and the steps give way to the All set! (your domain) is live with HTTPS. card, with the Open site button. To see the record that keeps the domain connected again, click Show records. Do not delete the CNAME at your provider: it is what keeps the domain live.

Previous version: screen without the 3 steps

While the domain is Disconnected, click Connect on its details. A window helps you set up the DNS at your provider.

If you would rather set it up by hand, create a record in your provider's panel:

    FieldValue
    TypeCNAME
Host / Namewww (or whichever subdomain you chose)
    Points toentri-domains.clickmax.space

Save and wait. Propagation can take up to 48 hours, though it is usually much faster.

To move a domain from the previous version to the new one without taking the site down, see how to migrate the domain to the new version.

    3. Send emails with the domain (optional)

The same domain can be the sender of your emails, such as contact@mystore.com. On the domain details, the Email card shows Not set up while sending is not on.

    1. Click Set up now. The same provider window opens, this time to create the email records.
    2. While the records are not confirmed, the card shows Waiting for verification. After a few minutes, click Test connection. If the window closed without creating the records, Reconfigure opens it again.
    3. With the email verified, the card shows Verified and the Manage email button, which leads to the domain's email screen, where you add senders. See email domain.

While the domain is not attached to a project it shows as No project. Once connected, choose it on the funnel under its settings. Every page in the funnel then uses that address, and an individual page can override it in its own settings.

    If it didn't work

    • Still Connecting or Securing: re-check the CNAME at your provider (name and value exactly as on screen), and look for an older conflicting record on the same host — see my domain does not open.
    • Back to Disconnected and the Connect the domain in 3 steps card says the automatic check ended without finding the records: the platform looked for about an hour and stopped. Check the CNAME at your provider and click Recheck — the check starts again for another hour.
    • The Not connected yet notification says what is missing: CNAME pointing to Clickmax is a record you create at your provider; active certificate and confirmation that the domain is yours happen on their own a few minutes after the CNAME is right.
    • The provider refuses the record or blocks the domain: check with the provider directly.
    • This domain is already registered in this or another workspace: a domain can only exist in one workspace at a time. To use it here, delete it where it is and add it again; if you don't recognize the registration, contact support.
    • That address is reserved by Clickmax and cannot be registered: Clickmax's own addresses cannot be added as a domain. Use a domain of your own, such as mysite.com.
    • We could not reserve the domain right now: nothing was registered. Wait a few minutes and click Continue again.
