How to tell which automation created the opportunity
When an automation creates an opportunity, its history opens with the Opportunity created activity, signed by Automation and naming the automation that did it. The name is a link: click it to open that automation in the editor, where you can review or adjust the flow.
You find this by opening the opportunity and going to the History tab.
What the activity shows
If the automation is renamed later, the history keeps showing the name it had when it created the opportunity — the trail does not change over time. If it is deleted, the link is still there, but the editor won't find the flow.
What the opportunity already carries
Beyond the history trail, an opportunity created by an automation is born filled in:
- Title — when the automation doesn't set a title, the opportunity gets the contact's name. A contact with no name still produces an opportunity without a title.
- Value — when the automation started from a purchase and no value was set, the opportunity inherits the purchased offer's price.
- Offer and product — the purchased offer is linked to the opportunity, along with its product. That's what makes the opportunity show up in the offer and product filters.
If the automation already sets a title, value, offer, or product in the assignment action, what you configured still wins — none of it is overwritten.
When the offer is not linked
The offer only comes in when the automation's trigger carries a purchase — for example Purchase approved or another checkout trigger. An automation started by a page capture, funnel entry, or tag has no offer to link, so the opportunity is born with no offer, no product, and no value.
Opportunities created earlier
The trail starts being recorded from now on. Opportunities created by automations before this still have no creation activity in their history — there is no way to recover which automation created them.
